Specialist Teacher

  • A specialist teacher is a qualified teaching professional who will help your child develop the skills and strategies to be successful in both an educational setting and in general life. A specialist teacher works with your family to help you develop goals which can be to do with self-care, motor skill development, organisational skills, communication skills, social skills and emotional regulation so that your child can be confident with exactly who they are. A specialist teacher can help you build an individual goals plan and profile which can be useful when coordinating between multiple professionals in ensuring that all of the specialists working with your child are unified and working in a way which is best for your child.

  • If your child is below the age of 7 and has been identified as autistic, or been diagnosed with a developmental delay and you need help navigating multiple therapies and goals then a specialist teacher could be the right fit for your family. A specialist teacher will work with your family as a ‘Key Worker’ who can assist you in choosing the most relevant goals for your child. A specialist teacher can help your family to communicate and collaborate with your child's educational setting to ensure that the appropriate individualised supports are available to your child to create inclusive educational environments for your child.

  • A specialist teacher will assess your child’s strengths and areas where they may need more support and work with your child in a fun and engaging way to help work towards their goals. A specialist teacher will look at your child's interests and use them to formulate strategies to help your child achieve the most that they can in an educational setting and at home. A specialist teacher can work with your children’s teachers to help them best understand your child and how they can best work with your child.

  • At Neu Kids, we believe that all of our support services should be play-based, fun and functional. When a specialist teacher is working with your child, it may just look like games and play, but each activity is designed with the individualised goals and interests of your child at the forefront of the session. Our specialist teachers also encourage the participation of families in the sessions so that the skills and strategies practiced with us can be transferred naturally into your everyday life.

  • How often your child and family have sessions with our specialist teacher really depends on individual circumstances. However, most commonly, families would see their specialist teacher either once per week or once per fortnight. It all depends what works best for your family.

  • Our specialist teacher services are located in the North East of Melbourne. We are a community-based service, meaning that we work in organic teaching environments such as your home, daycares or kindergartens and other community spaces. Our service area includes:
